Protected Species Surveys

Legislative requirements have driven the demand for protected species surveys over recent years and CSa have enormous experience in survey and mitigation for a wide range of species.

Our ecologists hold survey licences for European protected species including bats, great crested newts and dormice but, importantly, we also have the knowledge and experience to resolve constraints when issues are uncovered.

CSa can provide specialist survey and assessment of the following protected species:

  • Bats – roost surveys, activity surveys etc
  • Badgers – sett surveys, bait marking
  • Dormice – nest tube, nest box and hazelnut surveys
  • Water voles - surveys for burrows and other field signs
  • Otters - surveys for holts, resting places and other field signs
  • Birds – breeding bird and over wintering bird surveys, species-specific surveys (e.g. barn owl, black redstart etc)
  • Reptiles – presence/absence surveys
  • Great Crested Newts – pond surveys and pitfall trapping
  • Invertebrates – freshwater and terrestrial surveys, species-specific surveys (e.g. white-clawed crayfish)

The surveys above are far from a definitive list, so please contact us to discuss any other survey requirements. Where CSa cannot provide the appropriate in-house expertise, specialist associates can be called upon to provide assistance.
