Holiday lodges and landscape restoration, Suffolk
CSa Input: Landscape Architects and Expert Witness
Date: 2007
Client: Retreat East
Retreat East acquired a small Suffolk farm and 15th century long house in a ‘Special Landscape Area’ with the objective of creating a smallscale, high quality, sustainable tourist destination of holiday lodges and accommodation. CSa prepared a comprehensive landscape restoration strategy for the site which included reinstatement of historic field patterns, shelterbelt planting, creation of a kitchen garden, orchard and wildfl ower meadows. The landscape strategy was commended by Mid Suffolk District Council but the scheme refused planning permission as it was considered contrary to policy. Permission was however granted on appeal, with CSa acting as Expert Witness on landscape and visual matters.
