CSa Input: Landscape Architects and Ecologists

Date: 1998-2003

Client: DMI Belvedere

CSa were commissioned by DMI Belvedere to prepare and implement a landscape/ecological strategy for a major employment site alongside the River Thames at Erith. The low lying site was crossed by a number of watercourses which supported a resident population of water voles. Surveys were carried out to determine the size of the water vole population and a detailed management plan and mitigation strategy drawn up and agreed with the Environment Agency and Natural England. As part of the surface water attenuation strategy, over 2 kilometers of interconnecting ditches were created within the site; these were profiled and planted to maximize habitat value. Monitoring of the scheme showed that the existing water vole population had been maintained and expanded to colonize the new dyke system.
