Client: The Oil and Pipelines Agency (OPA) requested an ecological check/assessment of potential ecological impacts arising from proposed pipeline safety works near Bristol. One of the few issues likely to be relevant was considered to be the potential for water voles to occur. On arrival at the site it was discovered that the ditch concerned has been chosen as a release site for Bristol Zoo’s water vole captive breeding programme and the media were present to film the release when we were there! Pipeline works were cancelled for unrelated reasons.
