Badger Sett Closure, Kidderminster
CSa Input: Ecological Walkover and Badger Mitigation
Date: 2006-2007
Client: Worcestershire County Council
Ecological surveys undertaken by CSa revealed the presence of a single outlying badger hole at the edge of the school playing field where new school buildings were to be built. Regular checks of the hole revealed that the outlying sett was active and well-used by badgers but it was considered the closure of this outlying hole would not result in significant impacts to the local badger population. Further to appropriate licensing, a one-way badger gate was installed to allow any badgers that might be present underground to leave. The sett was then closely monitored to ensure badgers were absent before being dug out and destroyed.
